Letter: Piepkorn’s primary concern is North Dakota

Merrill Piepkorn is a positive leader who as our next Governor will help bring us together to solve problems facing our region and community. His campaign reflects the welcoming and practical nature you often find across service groups and neighbors, because that’s the kind of person he is.

On a recent phone call, I talked with a young North Dakotan who summed up the current GOP primary fight best: “Why are they even talking about Trump? Shouldn’t they be talking about education and infrastructure?” Yes! State candidates should be talking about the on-the-ground realities of working families, retired community members, and everyone in-between.

Here in Jamestown, turnovers in healthcare, human service, and teaching staff are high; Merrill is committed to investing in both long-term public service providers and young career professionals. Housing is neither accessible nor affordable; Merrill will champion property tax reform and support programs that balance state resources with local control. He knows we need more addiction and mental health services; he will be an advocate for those too.

The next time the primary election comes up in conversation, I urge you to talk with your friends about the hope and unity Merrill’s candidacy has already demonstrated. Speak about our collective future with the dignity and respect it deserves. Vote your heart and your commitment to the community around you -- vote Merrill Piepkorn on June 11th.
